This study investigates the relationship between childhood victimization, adolescent and adult interpersonal violence, and trauma-related symptoms, in a multi-ethnic sample of 145 female residents of a domestic violence shelter. As expected, childhood abuse history predicted the frequency of lifetime victimization and was associated with experiencing multiple abusive relationships in adolescence and/or adulthood. Lifetime victimization also significantly predicted posttraumatic stress disordered symptomatology. Clinical implications of the findings will be discussed.
